I once drove from Florida to Acadia National Park in Maine, only to find the door locked and no one to let me in. It was during the fall of 2013, and that year’s government shutdown left many travelers stranded and frustrated.
Today’s shutdown is affecting many national parks, but some, like our Everglades National Park have open-access roadways that cross through the park, making a visit possible.
Keep in mind that parks with limited access may not have open visitor centers or comfort facilities during the shutdown. It’s always best to check the park’s status before your arrival.
