Ancient Rome may have fallen 1,500 years ago, but in 2023, the Roman Empire has gone viral. It all started with @paige.elysee asking the men in her life how often they think about the empire and – for straight men at least – it’s a lot. And #romanempire has over a billion views.
As to why men are obsessed … well, for one, pop culture has kept the memory of the civilization alive, and there are heroes like Caesar, Nero and Marcus Aurelius. Let’s not forget the movie “Gladiator” won an Oscar in 2000. The sequel, “Gladiator 2,” is coming out in 2024.
