The hills are alive

Maria and the von Trapp Family will come to life once again in a new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” at Artis-Naples.

It was the eighth and final musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein. Based on Maria Kutschera’s 1949 memoir, the classic story we grew up with was slightly different.

The von Trapps left Austria as Nazis came into power, but they didn’t escape over the Alps. They traveled through Italy to America to begin a concert tour. Unfortunately, they sold story rights to German producers and didn’t receive any royalties from the musical’s success.
