School may be out, but not every child copes well with change. During summer, routine goes out the window — and that can be stressful for children with depression. Not being around friends every day and sleeping too much can increase symptoms.
Encouraging children to stay social and be active outside reduces stress and improves well-being. Adolescents who participate in sports have lower odds of suffering from depression or considering suicide, likely because sports increase self-esteem and social support.
Being in nature also boosts energy levels and mood. When kids #StandUp for their minds and bodies, they feel better.
