Individuals facing mental health or substance use crises will now have one comprehensive treatment facility to turn to, thanks to a unanimous vote by the Collier County Board of County Commissioners.
The new 55,000-square-foot facility was funded and approved by voters through the one-cent sales surtax to replace the often overcrowded Crisis Unit. The new facility will alleviate the strain on hospitals and jails where people are being held when DLC is over capacity — conditions made worse by the coronavirus pandemic, opioid epidemic, and suicide crisis — requiring people to be transferred out of county for crisis support.
