Back in February, J.D. Power released its annual Vehicle Dependability Study and well, I suppose it’s taken me two months to process what I’m seeing.
For starters, the data suggests that vehicle reliability is down 40% across the board since 2019. Back then, owners of 2016 model-year vehicles reported experiencing roughly 136 problems per 100 vehicles after three years of ownership. Today, it’s 190. Even Lexus owners are reporting 23% more problems on average than they did pre-pandemic.
Are Gen Y/Z buyers just more likely to notice issues? Either way, all the more reason to buy the most reliable car possible.
