Summer weather typically means more people are loading up on produce when visiting the grocery store or farmer’s market.
Before you toss the scraps, decide if it can be blended in a smoothie, stew or sauce. If not, it is ready for the compost. Here are a few steps to get started:
1. Invest in an aerated tumbler or enclosed stationary bin.
2. Remember this formula:
One-part Greens = plants, food scraps, grass trimmings.
Two-part Browns = dried leaves, woody materials, paper waste.
3. Keep moist and always cover it after adding to it.
4. Toss and turn regularly before scattering after two months.
