Where does household hazardous waste go?

Household hazardous waste is more common than you think. It includes items like cleaning chemicals, motor oil, unused paint, car batteries and fluorescent lamps.

Often, the containers have the recyclable symbol on the label, which can cause some confusion about proper disposal.

If your plastic jug or bottle is empty and dry, it can go in your curbside collection cart.

If there are unused chemicals or you are in doubt about where to place an item, it is safer to dispose of it at one of the approved drop-off locations listed on the Collier, Lee or Charlotte County websites.
