There’s a ghost making an appearance in the swamps of eastern Collier County, and you can catch a glimpse in broad daylight. This ghost is not an aberration nor anything scary, but it’s certainly something rare and wonderful: the ghost orchid.
Blooming now and for an expected eight or so weeks, the endangered ghost orchid at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary is one of less than 2,000 such plants thought to still exist in the world today.
Native to Florida, it is safely growing high on a tree within the sanctuary, so bring your binoculars for the stroll along the boardwalk.
