Thanks to a unanimous vote from Collier commissioners, 2020 marks the beginning of the county’s first-ever mental health and addiction services strategic plan that gives county officials and stakeholders a blueprint for the development of programs that will lead more people down the road to recovery, by addressing six priorities.
The plan addresses the increased demand for crisis support and the strain that has placed on law enforcement, hospitals and the David Lawrence Center. The committee identified the top priority: building and operating a central receiving system. Other priority areas include housing, data sharing, justice system response, advocacy and awareness.
