Commercially available masks have warning labels indicating they will not prevent you from getting coronavirus. Photos of these labels are circulating on the internet as justification for not wearing masks.
However, science has proven that wearing masks – whether they are surgical masks or homemade, cloth face coverings – can have a significant impact in reducing the spread of COVID-19. Face coverings reduce the distance that your respiratory droplets will travel while talking, laughing, sneezing or coughing.
Wearing a face covering should be used in conjunction with social distancing and frequent hand-washing to protect the health of your family and our community.
