When teammates at work seek to leverage my authority to solve problems they don’t have the intestinal fortitude to address, my response is consistent: Not my circus, not my monkeys.
My job as a leader is to ask questions and solve operational issues that impact the team as a whole. In fact, when leaders are burdened with sorting out differences in personality and workflow, it detracts from creativity and productivity.
The open-cubicle concept of our office speaks volumes about the way I operate. In other words, there are no closed-door sessions – we literally don’t have them. But deep discussions? Absolutely.
