Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation that prohibits anti-Semitic speech in Florida’s public schools and universities. DeSantis signed the bill recently, during a trade mission to Israel.
The measure now includes religion as a protected category against discrimination. Consequences for anti-Semitism as well as any other form of religious discrimination will be treated the same way as racial or gender discrimination in the public-school system.
DeSantis joined Randy Fine, a Republican legislator from Melbourne, Florida, who led efforts for the bill. The bill was passed unanimously by Florida legislators and highlighted the positive relationship between Florida and Israel.
