The redistricting year, following the census, brings many changes to districts and to methods of getting a candidate’s name on the ballot.
Qualifying petitions can be filed for any office, or a qualifying fee can be paid. In the redistricting year petitions are not specific to a district in state elections, those can be collected from any registered Floridian when running for legislature or Congress.
This cycle, Qualifying Week begins June 13. It isn’t difficult to qualify, but it does require careful attention to detail and basic laws. Mistakes, even if minor or clerical, can end a candidacy before it begins.
