All produce matters: Giving rejects a chance

Cosmetic standards are everywhere, even in the grocery store. The USDA provides grocers with standards on how fruits and veggies should appear. Grocers will purchase from farms based on those standards, which means “ugly” produce often gets rejected due to lack of aesthetic appeal. But curvy cucumbers, knobby tomatoes and giant squash matter, too.

Krazy Krops, a local fruit and vegetable home-delivery service, is giving these rejects a chance by putting them in its discounted produce boxes.

Krazy fruits and vegetables are just as nutritious as their flawless counterparts. Furthermore, including unloved produce also significantly cuts down on waste.
