Savor the flavor: Sound advice

by

If asked to describe my perfect meal, I’d say “surrounded by friends and family, soft candlelight and beautifully prepared food to delight my eyes.”

What I probably would miss is the background sounds, and as it turns out, what we hear when we eat is as important to taste as what we see at the table.

Research shows that flavors like salty and sweet are perceived as less intense when background noise levels are high and more intense and pleasant when there is soft noise or silence surrounding the diner.

Turning down the volume can actually crank up the flavor!
