It is a shame that at the height of distress, unscrupulous individuals would take advantage of other people's kindness by initiating charity scams. After Hurricane Katrina, the FBI was requested to look into 15 fake websites asking for donations. Also, after Hurricane Sandy, a website tried to scam people to raise $600K. (Forbes.com)

There is overwhelming intent to support those affected by Hurricane Ian and there are a lot of organizations offering means to bring help to the victims. When choosing the charity for your donation, make sure that the organization has a clear disaster appeal and specific relief activities. It must have a presence in the affected areas and extensive experience in providing relief.
