While many of us are celebrating the return of pumpkin spice lattes this October, the UCF Marine Turtle Research Group reminds us that this is also washback season for sea turtles.
According to a recent social media post, washbacks are sea turtles that are a few months old and have been pushed back to the beach by winds and waves. Because of exhaustion, the young turtles may need assistance to get offshore again.
If you find a washback on the beach, don’t put it back in the water. Instead, call the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission hotline (1-888-404-3922).

Hi there! Thank you for all you do to help wildlife!
Question: How could we watch (or help) the turtles be returned to life at sea(gulf)? I’m a photographer and would love to be there! I’m sure there are more days than one yes? LMK, I would be truly grateful.
Thank you,
Lane Wilkinson
Hi Lane! I would suggest reaching out to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (1-888-404-3922)… They could probably get you on their media list to learn about releases.
