Ask the Curator: Can you tell me more about Edison’s rubber project?

Join Collections Registrar, Matt Andres, as he provides a tour of Edison’s Botanical Laboratory. This discussion will include detailed background information about the rubber industry how the Edison Botanic Research corporation was formed as well as the purpose and goals of the project. Then, Matt will take visitors through Edison’s original 1928 rubber research laboratory and discuss different machinery that played a role in the project and the step by step detail involved in the rubber extraction process.  

The Edison and Ford Winter Estates date from 1885, when Thomas Edison first visited Southwest Florida and purchased  property to build a vacation home.
