Welcoming women into aviation

Well into aviation’s second century, the industry still badly lags in gender diversity. A key data point: Fewer than 9% of aerospace engineers are women.  

But solutions are ready for takeoff. A landmark study, “Soaring through the Glass Ceiling,” from the International Aviation Women’s Association and consulting firm Korn Ferry, points to specific and actionable recommendations to make aviation more appealing, welcoming and fulfilling for women.   

“We need to shout from the rooftops what a great career field this is,” says Lockheed Martin executive Stephanie C. Hill, a keynoter at IAWA’s recent launch of the study. Read the report here.
