Nursing is both science and art. The science is knowing anatomy and physiology, biology, math, pharmacology and some psychology. The art is understanding patients’ emotional and spiritual needs. Together, it means nurses deliver compassionate and expert care.
We just celebrated the pinning of our BSN students. They have dedicated themselves to mastering the science and art of being a nurse, spending the past 16 months taking classes in the evening and clinicals on the weekends.
The ceremony ended with the graduates citing “The Nightingale Pledge,” which includes “I will work to promote wellness in individuals, families and communities.” Cool, huh?
