Google made a big announcement on International Women’s Day. It has launched an anti-harassment program called Harassment Manager for female journalists, activists and public figures with large Twitter accounts, who face gender-based abuse. The tool can detect abusive posts so users can flag them. It also allows them to mute or even block internet trolls.
Google talked with women in the industry about ways to increase online safety.
“Our hope is that this technology provides a resource for people who are facing harassment online, especially female journalists, activists, politicians and other public figures, who deal with disproportionately high toxicity online.”
