This 2019-2020 school year, David Lawrence Centers challenged middle and high schoolers to be part of the conversation about mental health and express how depression, bullying, anxiety, or substance use has impacted their lives directly or indirectly through a #StandUp multimedia contest.
Teens let their voices be heard by singing, writing, video recording, or rhyming about how to #StandUp for mental health. The winning entries – both poems – were submitted by sophomore Janellie Galecki and eighth-grader Daniel Dean. Second-place winners – essay entries – were submitted by junior Sabrina Freire and seventh-grader Jane Jones.
