Snakes have a bad reputation, but are beneficial to our environment. Non-venomous snakes are frequently confused for venomous ones and needlessly killed.
A Facebook group called What kind of snake is this? Florida aims to identify members’ photos of unknown snakes and increase respect for the slithery reptiles. Started in 2015, the group has 69,500 members, including professional snake handler Rhett Stanberry, who recently described how he and partner Taylor McDowell relocated a venomous cottonmouth from an unlikely spot – outside a Naples apartment complex.
You can watch a video of the relocation and learn more about this misunderstood species here.
