While the season just started, the first nest was officially recorded as of April 22 according to the City of Naples Natural Resources Department.
What does this mean for beachgoers?
• Sea turtles are protected by law, so don’t disturb any marked nests. If you see one, report it to (239) 213-7119.
• Sea turtles find the water by going toward the light reflected on the Gulf of Mexico. Don’t use flashlights, cell phone flashes or exterior landscaping lights that can confuse and endanger them.
• Reduce obstacles by filling holes and removing beach furniture and umbrellas after sunset.
