Don’t fall prey to latest phone and email scams

by
Crystal Kinzel

Crystal Kinzel, Collier County clerk of the circuit court, is educating the public about new scams exposed by the Florida Supreme Court and the Florida Court Clerks & Comptrollers.

In one scam, someone calls and states that they are with a sheriff’s office or a clerk’s office. The caller tells the victim they have missed jury duty and have a warrant out for their arrest, unless they pay a specific amount for the warrant to be dismissed.

Another scheme involves emails mimicking official Florida Supreme Court letterhead and requesting money. These incidents should be reported to a local law enforcement agency.
