New tax means new opportunities for citizen review

by

If you are a Collier County voter, you probably made your choice of yes or no on the countywide sales tax referendum this past Election Day.

The referendum passed by a very narrow margin of yeas over nays and Collier County residents, regardless of how they voted on the issue, now have an opportunity to be involved in making sure that the additional 1% sales tax is spent on earmarked projects.

As part of the referendum, the county must now convene the Infrastructure Surtax Citizen Oversight Committee to review expenditures. Applications are currently being accepted for the seven-member committee.
