White County Commissioners approved the expenditure of $24 million in tourist development tax funds for the emergency berm project at their Jan. 24 meeting. Far from certain is a start date, as contracts are yet to be awarded to restore the berm on public beaches from North Naples to Marco Island.
It’s likely now that a project start date might not be until early March and could “leak into mid-March” pushing the end date to May.
The emergency berm is just the start of the long-term process of rebuilding Collier’s beaches.
