Peace River Wildlife Center: Fur, Feathers and Food

August 21, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm EDT

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. (Aug. 08, 2021) – Luna, a rare leucistic screech owl, is primping his feathers in preparation of a frolicking good time Saturday, Aug. 21 when the Peace River Wildlife Center (PRWC) hosts Fur, Feathers & Food. The fundraiser features carnival games, food, a photo booth, live music, and overall family-friendly fun. Admission is free, and a $10 donation per person provides access to all activities including a hot dog. The event is noon – 4 p.m. at the Ponce de Leon Park facility at 3400 Ponce de Leon Pkwy., in Punta Gorda.

“Annually, it costs PRWC $90,000 to feed patient and resident native wildlife. The Fur, Feathers & Food event is a fun way to raise funds to cover center’s food costs,” said Callie Stahl, Executive Director of the Peace River Wildlife Center.

Highlights of the day include a photo booth with PRWC educational animals like Luna. The Calusa Nature Center of Fort Myers will bring a baby alligator and a variety of non-venomous snake species to educate visitors about Florida’s cool reptiles. Musical performers are the Tin Can Tourist Band and Terry Dotson. Attendees are invited to tour PRWC and meet the residents, like Spirit the fish crow who enjoys saying “hi” to visitors.

The center will host a giving challenge online Aug. 20 – 22. Those who want to support the center continue its mission of caring for injured, orphaned, or abandoned Florida wildlife, can donate by visiting prwildlife.org or on Facebook.com/peaceriverwildlifecenter. An anonymous donor will match up to $25,000 for all donations received both online and during the Fur, Feathers & Food fundraiser.
