The Kentucky Derby has been around since 1875. Not much has changed since then, except for the parties: They have gotten better.
Here are three tips to celebrate in style:
1) Mint juleps are a must-have tradition. It is said that over 120,000 are consumed each year.
2) Dress to impress. Wearing a hat on Derby Day means good luck, so bring your best hat or your bow tie.
3) Attend a nonprofit event. If you do not follow the races, Derby Day is a great opportunity to attend a fundraiser featured on The SWFL 100 Community Calendar.
