Bravery and badges: Collier County Sheriff’s Office women keep us safe

by
female sheriffs

Ever since Collier County’s first sheriff, W.R. Maynard, left his wife Blanche in charge of inmates in 1926, women have been capably keeping Collier County safe.

Blanche Maynard, with her infant son strapped to her back and rifle in hand, once led a posse through the swamps to successfully return three escaped inmates to their cells. Today, women comprise 37 percent of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office workforce, far above the 27 percent average in policing nationwide.

If a career in public service interests you, make a career move now, or help a young woman consider her future options.
