Collier County faces shortage of services for senior women

by
senior citizen

The senior population in Collier County is growing faster than the state of Florida and faces a shortage of affordable housing and programs.

Studies show that women who provide care for an ill or disabled spouse were six times more likely to suffer from depression or anxiety and two-and-a-half times more likely than non-caregivers to live in poverty.

The Women’s Foundation of Collier County is seeking solutions to address the mental health and isolation of senior women by offering a $50,000 grant to support local programs.

The 2019 grant application is open until April 25.
