Evaluating options for reducing Collier County’s coastal storm risk

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Collier County officials are conducting a feasibility study to reduce damage from hurricanes, floods and coastal storms.

While the objective is to strengthen Collier County’s resistance to storm surges, this is an opportunity to restore our natural coastline. Structural alternatives may include installing floodgates or floodwalls, as well as natural restoration of dunes, mangroves and oyster beds.

However, alternative suggestions are being considered, and now is the time to share your ideas so that you can become part of the solution.
