The Natural Resources Division – with the help of its contractor, Sea & Shoreline – has completed the construction of an Oyster Restoration Project that began in early January located in Haldeman Creek.
The newly placed 650 tons of fossilized shell and 200 tons of limestones are now covered with juvenile oysters where birds, fish and invertebrate species feed and shelter.
Although Naples Bay cannot be restored to its former natural conditions, the restoration project improved the bay’s overall function. This includes the shoreline’s resiliency to provide protection from storm and wake surges, improving water quality and more.
