If you receive a call instructing you to pay a fine by purchasing a gift card to the Clerks’ offices due to a missed jury duty, don’t believe it. Chances are, you are just being scammed.
Many complaints have been recorded in Manatee and Sarasota County, and there could be more cases in other areas.
Crystal Kinzel, Collier County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller, advised Collier County residents to never give any personal or financial information to strangers. Caller IDs can also be faked.
Once you receive a dubious call, hang up right away and report to (239) 252-2646.
