Bear-resistant waste carts available

Waste Management and Collier County rolled out a new bear-resistant trash container for Collier County residents. This project is part of Collier County’s BearWise initiative to reduce human-bear interactions.

The carts have a locking mechanism to help keep bears out of trash. Through a grant that the county received, the first 400 containers are being sold at a subsidized price of $115 (half of market cost).

If you have seen bears in your neighborhood, there may be additional steps you can take to minimize interactions. Visit BearWise.org for six basic steps to protect your family, pets and our wildlife.
