The passage of the 19th Amendment on Aug. 18, 1920, marked a turning point moment – affirming that voting rights in the United States “shall not be denied or abridged … on account of sex,” codifying women’s right to vote in the Constitution.
Today, women comprise a major segment of Collier County’s electorate. Voter turnout reached nearly 83% in the 2024 general election and 53% of the ballots cast were by women. Women undoubtedly represent a substantial voting bloc – shaping results and policy decisions. We owe great gratitude to the trailblazing women who helped secure equality in exercising our right to vote.
