Adventuring with the coastal locals

by
dolphins

I recently got close and personal with some dolphins on The Dolphin Explorer of Marco Island. On board the eco-tour was a Florida master naturalist, who is part of the Dolphin Explorer survey crew.

We were on a first name basis with these dolphins, which are named by passengers – Lucky Charm, Halfway, Kaya, Ariel. As they jumped in the boat’s wake, we learned how to identify them by their distinct dorsal-fin markings.

Research is conducted during these tours by documenting each dolphin sighting as part of a long-term study. Over 80 dolphins have been documented so far.
